The Piper PA-31-310 Navajo C is a six-seat all-metal low-wing twin-engine business aircraft. The Piper Aircraft Corporation developed the PA-31 Navajo in the early 1960s. The first prototype PA-31 flew first on 30 September 1964. The production model PA-31-310, powered by two 230kW turbo-charged Lycoming TIO-540-A1A engines, entered production in 1967. The model PA-31-310 was developed further and in 1971 model PA-31-310 Navajo B entered production, in 1974 followed by the PA-31-310 Navajo C. Production of the PA-31-310 model ended in 1983, with a total of 2044 built. Production of the Piper PA-31 ended in 1984, with a total of 3942 PA-31s in various models built.

The 1968-built Piper PA-31-310 Navajo s/n 31-245 was registered first N9184Y in the USA. On 5 March 1969, the aircraft was registered G-AXAZ in the UK with Group Lotus Car Companies Ltd., Norwich. On 31 December 1971, the Navajo was registered with The Automobile Association, London. On 29 April 1974, the Piper PA-31 was registered with Shackleton Aviation Ltd., London. On 1 July 1974, registered ownership of the G-AXAZ was changed to Shackleton Aviation (Aircraft Componants) Ltd, London. On 31 July 1975, the G-AXAZ was registered as chartered by Meridian Airmaps Ltd, Lancing. On 26 April 1985, the G-AXAZ was registered with Michian Aviation Ltd, Biggin Hill, as owner. On 5 July 1985, the aircraft was re-registered G-BXAZ with Michian Aviation Ltd, Biggin Hill, as registered owner. On 5 July 1986, registration G-BZAX was cancelled as exported to Denmark. The Piper PA-31-310 was registered OY-BHF and was operated for a longer period by Scankort Air Services. In service with Scankort Air Services, the aircraft was operated on special duties like Marine Polution Control and Aerial Survey and Mapping. On 23 December 2011, Piper PA-31-310 Navajo OY-BHF was registered with Fugro Aerial Mapping A/S, Glostrup, Danmark, as operator, and Fugro Finance AG in Swiss, as owner. On 12 December 2012, registration OY-BHF was cancelled as exported to Malta, where the Piper PA-31 Navajo was registered 9H-FMF with Fugro Malta Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fugro NV.
