In the period December 1962 - November 1984, the Royal Netherlands Air Force (Koninklijke Nederlandse Luchtmacht)
received a total of one hundred and thirty-eight Lockheed F-104G Starfighters. The KLu operated 3 versions of the
Lockheed F-104 Starfighter: F-104G, TF-104G and RF-104G:
- 95 F-104G/RF-104G built by Fokker: with the serials in the range D-8013 / D-8343;
- 25 F-104G built by FIAT: with the serials in the range D-6652 / D-6700;
- 18 TF-104G built by Lockheed: with the serials D-5702 / D-5817.
On 8 October 1979, Lockheed F-104G Starfighter D-6654 of the Royal Dutch Air Force 323 sqdn was
seen waiting with three sister ships for take-off at Leeuwarden AFB in the Netherlands.
Lockheed F-104G Starfighter D-6654 was built by FIAT in Italy and entered service with
the Royal Netherlands Air Force in March 1965. This Starfighter was owned by the U.S.A. and was, after being
withdrawn from service with the Dutch in January 1982, transferred to Turkey as 6654.
