In the period December 1962 - November 1984, the Royal Netherlands Air Force (Koninklijke Nederlandse Luchtmacht)
received a total of one hundred and thirty-eight Lockheed F-104G Starfighters. The KLu operated 3 versions of the
Lockheed F-104 Starfighter: F-104G, TF-104G and RF-104G:
- 95 F-104G/RF-104G built by Fokker: with the serials in the range D-8013 / D-8343;
- 25 F-104G built by FIAT: with the serials in the range D-6652 / D-6700;
- 18 TF-104G built by Lockheed: with the serials D-5702 / D-5817. |
Lockheed F-104G Starfighter s/n 683-8288 was built by Fokker at Amsterdam-Schiphol and entered service with
the Royal Netherlands Air Force as D-8288 on 9 December 1964. This Starfighter was owned by the U.S.A. and
was, after being withdrawn from service with the Dutch in December 1980, transferred to Turkey. On 15
December 1980, the aircraft re-serialed 64-8288 with the Turkish Air Force and flown to Murted AFB (today
known Akinci AFB) where it arrived the next day. The aircraft was operated by 142 filo with code 4-288. On
17 February 1982, the former Dutch Air Force Starfighter crashed due to technical problems near homebase
Murted AB during a training mission. The pilot could eject in time using his C2 ejection seat and was safe. On 27 March 1979,
Lockheed F-104G Starfighter D-8288 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force 322 sqdn was seen at Leeuwarden AFB in the Netherlands.
