D-MCAH EDM Aerotec CoAX 2D - www.edm-aerotec.de - Flugplatz Ganderkesee in Germany - 26 May 2018 Flugplatz Ganderkesee (EDWQ)

The EDM Aerotec CoAX 2D is a single engined microlight coaxial helicopter with a two-seats-in side-by-side configuration enclosed cockpit and a skid landing gear with ground handling wheels. The CoAX 2D formely known as the FLIP 2 (Fly in Perfection 2)is manufactured by EDM Aerotec GmbH in Geisleden, Germany, and is a derivative of the FLIP 1, a conventional helicopter with a main and tail rotor. After the development and first construction of the prototype FLIP 2 started in Russia, construction and further development took place mainly at Dreiling Maschinenbau GmbH in Geisleden from 2008 onwards. The first test program with flight tests was conducted in Russia from September 2012 to August 2013. After the flight testing in Russia, the entire concept was completely redesigned. The new design and calculations of the individual assemblies were carried out at edm aerotec GmbH and Dreiling Maschinenbau GmbH. In addition, the cabin design has been completely redesigned. By the start of the test program, the helicopters was powered by a Hirth engine, but this was replaced first by a Rotax engine and finally for the CoAX 2D a side valve engine of the Belgian manufacturer D-Motor was choosen. The CoAX 2D was designed to comply with the European Class 6 microlight helicopter rules. On 29 March 2017, after doing a three year testing program, EDM Aerotec received the German permit to fly Type Certificate (Nr.: 950-17 1) for the CoAX 2D. The aircraft fuselage is made from composites. Its dual composite two-bladed main rotors have a diameter of 6.50 m. The aircraft has a empty weight of 283kg. Driving the helicopter is different: the pedals do not control a tail rotor, but the angle of attack of the rotor plane. The COAX 2D is powered by a six-cylinders, four stroke, liquid cooled 125 hp D-Motor LF39 engine. The cruise speed of of the CoAX 2D is 150km/h. Serial production of the helicopter started in 2017.

On 26 May 2018, EDM Aerotec CoAX 2D D-MCAH was seen during AirFair 2018 at Ganderkesee airfield in Germany.
