The Embraer EMB-135 ER is a twin-engine short-haul feeder-liner jet for up to 37 passengers. Embraer, the Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica S.A., is a Brazilian corporation, founded in 1969. Embraer was a nearly bankrupt concern when it was restructured and privatised in 1995. Today, it is one of the largest aviation manufacturers in the world, producing regional commercial, military, and corporate aircraft. Embraer began working on a 50 seat short-haul feeder-liner jet concept in the late 1980s. This Embraer EMB145 was flown first on 11 August 1995. The EMB-145 was renamed the ERJ-145 EMBRAER Regional Jet since. In addition to the successful ERJ-145, Embraer launched the ERJ-135 on 16 September 1997. This 37-seat development of the ERJ-145 benefits from more than 95% of parts commonality with the ERJ 145: engines, main systems, cockpit, wing and tail. The fuselage cross section is the same, only 3,6 metres shorter. The ERJ-135 made its first flight on 4 July 1998. A second prototype followed in October 1998. Both prototypes were converted from ERJ-145 prototypes. Two basic versions of the ERJ135 are available: Extended Range (ER) and Long Range (LR). The ERJ135ER is powered by two Rolls Royce Allison AE3007A3 high-bypass ratio turbofans. The ERJ135LR features an additional fuel tank and slightly more powerful AE 3007A4 turbofans. This ERJ135LR has a range of 3.241 km and a maximum cruise speed of Mach .78 (833 km/h). Since first delivery in July 1999, over 240 of the ERJ-135 jet aircraft have been delivered to operators all over the world.

On 22 October 2003, Embrear ERJ-135ER s/n 145-431 (ex. PT-SUC), entered service as EI-ORK with JetMagic in Ireland. On 23 December 2004, the airframe was registered G-CDFS in the UK with LCY Flight Ltd. The G-CDFS was leased to/operated by Citelynx Travel in the ex JetMagic colors with Citylynx titles. After the G-CDFS was transferred to bmi - British Midland on 14 January 2008, the airliner was registered with British Midland Airways Ltd. on 18 February 2008. On 7 April 2008, the G-CDFS was photographed in JetMagic colors with small bmi titles at Groningen Airport Eelde in the Netherlands, when operated on the bmi regional service Aberdeen-Groningen.
