D-ERZW Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar GS-1 c/n 5563 - Nordhorn-Lingen airfield 'Klausheide' in Germany - 30 July 2020 Flugplatz Nordhorn-Lingen (EDWN)

The two-seats (side by side), high-wing, single-engined Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar GS-1 with fixed tricycle landing gear with nose wheel is in basic a composite kit-plane. The Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar made its debut in 1994. Tom Hamilton was the designer of the Glastar utility plane, with Ted Setzer doing much of the prototype work and Tom Setzer doing a lot of the detail design. However the GlaStar kit sold very well, Stoddard-Hamilton got into financial trouble and was in bankruptcy by 1999. In the settlement of the bankruptcy the production rights of a FAR 23 certified version of the kit-plane Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar S-100, were sold to OMF Symphony that in the period 2000-2004, a number of metal construction OMF-100-160 Symphony aircraft built at the Ostmecklenburgische Flugzeugbau GmbH in Neubrandenburg, Germany. Unfortunately, the OMF-100-160 Symphony did not enjoy a lot of success. Partly because of the sale of the production rights of the certified version of the kit-plane by Stoddard-Hamilton, a restart could be made and two new companies were formed: New GlaStar LLC and New Glasair LLC. These two companies were eventually combined into a new company called Glasair Aviation LLC. Glasair developed the GlaStar further in the Sportsman 2+2 and continues to sell this kit today.

The from a Stoddard-Hamilton construction kit built Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar GS-1 s/n 5563 was registered D-EPHM in the early 2000s. Registration D-EPHM was cancelled in August 2006, and the aircaft was registered OE-CZW in Austria. Registration OE-CZW was cancelled in March 2010. What happened with the aircraft after registration OE-CZW was cancelled is not clear: the construction number plate gives registration YL-BBZ. According to the Lithuanian register a Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar GS-1 was registered LY-BBZ from 24 May 2000 until 16 August 2016. During this period, on 3 August 2015, Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar GS-1 s/n 5607 (ex N286DM) was also given as new registered LY-BBZ in Lithuania, so it looks like registration LY-BBZ is used for more than one Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar GS-1. In 2019, Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar GS-1 s/n 5563 was registered D-ERZW in Germany. On 30 July 2020, Stoddard-Hamilton GlaStar GS-1 D-ERZW was seen at it's present home base Flugplatz Nordhorn-Lingen "Klausheide".
