The Robinson R44 Raven II is a four-seat light utility helicopter powered by a single fuel-injected, angle-valve, tuned-induction, Lycoming IO-540 piston engine. Design of the Robinson R44 began in 1985. The first prototype flew on 31 March 1990 and the second in January 1991. Sales efforts got under way in March 1992 at a base price of 235.000 US-Dollars. Certification was achieved on 10 December 1992, and 31 helicopters were delivered in 1993. Today the four-seat Model R44 is the world's most popular helicopter of which already over 3600 are delivered to customers all over the world.

On 8 March 2007, Robinson R44 Raven II s/n 11638 was registered G-HHHH with Heli Air, Wellesbourne in the UK. The 2007-built Raven II was registered with Crown and Cushion Hotel (Chipping Norton) Ltd, Chipping Norton, on 20 November 2007. In 2008, the G-HHHH was transferred to Helicon Helicopter Services in the Netherlands. On 15 April 2008, Helicon, Bergen op Zoom, made a reservation for the registration PH-WLW for this aircraft.
