The 1952-built Piper PA-18-95 s/n 18-1455 (frame-nr. 18-1399) was one of a considerable number of M.D.A.P. (Mutual Defense
Assistance Programme) - supplied tandem-seat Piper L-18C Super Cub aircraft to the French Army for liaison and general duties.
In January 1952, Piper L-18C with USAF serial 51-15455 entered service with the French Army (ALAT - Aviation Légère de l’Armée
de Terre) as 115455. Soon, the ALAT Piper L-18C 115455 moved to French Algeria, also known as Colonial Algeria. On 26 November
1955, the aircraft entered service with GAOA N°1 (Observation Aviation Group Artillerie N°1). On 1 April 1956, L-18C 115455
became part of the new formed 2e DIM - le Peleton Avions de la 2e Division d'Infanterie Motorisée that operated in Ageria. In
that period, the French Army L-18C aircraft in Algeria had "sand and spinach" camouflage, white-ringed roundels and rudder
tricolore. In September 1962, after Algeria was declared independence on 5 July 1962, Piper L-18C 115455 returned to France.
On 15 July 1963, the '115455' entered service with ES.ALAT. On 27 September 1963, the Piper L-18C was damaged in an accident
but repaired. In May 1970, Piper L-18C Super Cub 115455 was withdrawn from use by the ALAT and offered for sale. After being
retired from military services, the aircraft was registered D-EOCC and later D-EAGT in Germany as a Piper PA-18-95 Super Cub.
In May 1984, registration D-EAGT was cancelled as exported to the UK and registered G-BLGT with a privat owner. On 31 January
2005, after being registered G-BLGT with five different owners, and painted in 'U.S.ARMY 15445' colors, registration G-BLGT
was cancelled as exported to the Netherlands. On 8 March 2006, the Piper PA-18 Super Cub 95 was registered PH-FLG with Flying
Focus Castricum BV. On 21 December 2006, the PH-FLG was registered with a privat owner and based at vliegveld Hilversum. On
6 October 2018, Piper PA-18-95 PH-FLG was seen at Hoogeveen airfield (EHHO). |
