YR-TIG Israel IAI-1126 Galaxy (Gulfstream G200) c/n 012 - Ion Tiriac Air - Groningen Airport Eelde in Holland - 15 February 2006 Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ)

The IAI-1126 Galaxy / Gulfstream G200 is a twin-engine corporate jet for 2 crewmembers and up to 19 passengers in the shuttle configuration. Gulfstream Aerospace is responsible for the marketing of the aircraft, while actual design and manufacture takes place at Israel Aircraft Industries in Tel Aviv. The IAI-1126 Galaxy was originally marketed and supported by Galaxy Aerospace Inc. After Galaxy Aerospace Inc. was acquired by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation in 2001, the IAI-1126 Galaxy was rebranded Gulfstream G200. Design work on the IAI-1126 Galaxy, initially called the Astra Galaxy, began in the early 1990s, based on the wing design on the swept high speed unit of the IAI-1125 Astra SP, but otherwise a completely new design. By the formal announcement of the programme launch in September 1993, the name Galaxy was adopted. The prototype IAI-1126 Galaxy was flown first on 25 December 1997. A second prototype flew on 21 May 1998, while the third aircraft first flew on 24 September that year. US FAA and Israeli certification was issued in December 1998. The first customer aircraft was handed over on 17 January 2000. The aircraft is powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW-306A turbofans. Over 100 IAI-1126 Galaxy / Gulfstream G200 airplanes are built.

On 15 February 2006, Israel IAI-1126 Galaxy / Gulfstream G200 YR-TIG of Ion Tiriac Air was photographed at Groningen Airport Eelde in the Netherlands. TiriacAIR was founded in 1998 as part of Tiriac Holdings, named after its owner Ion Tiriac. Its operation base is Otopeni International Airport near Bucharest in Romania. The YR-TIG was built in 1999 as an Israel IAI-1126 Galaxy. It started its services with Ion Tiriac Air as N845GA. On 2 February 2006, the registration N845GA was cancelled and the aircraft was registered in Romania as YR-TIG. On 16 January 2009, the Tiriac Israel IAI-1126 Galaxy YR-TIG was damaged beyond repair when the aircraft skidded of the runway after it landed at Oradea Airport. Of the two crewmembers and ten passengers on board during this accident, nobody was hurt.
