The Tecnam P2002-JF Sierra is a two-seater side-by-side, low wing, single engine airplane equipped with fixed tricycle landing gear, built by Tecnam.
Costruzioni Aeronautiche TECNAM S.r.l., Capua, Italy, was founded in 1986 by the Brothers Luigi and Giovanni Pascale (formerly Partenavia).
In 1992, Tecnam entered the MLA-market with the P.92 Echo. In 2002, Tecnam started with the development of the P2002, an aluminum airplane
with a sliding canopy, destined for the MLA, Light Sport and VLA market. The Tecnam P2002 employs a monocoque construction style using sheet
aluminium over steel tubing. The cantilever low wing is all aluminium and constructed in a conventional way with a single spar and metal torsion
box. The leading edges of the wings are easily detachable for repairs. The fuel tanks are each 50 Lt (13.2 gal) and are located in the leading
edge separated from the fuselage for safety. The P2002 is powered by a 100 hp liquid and air-cooled Rotax 912 ULS engine. On 27 May 2004, Tecnam
recieved EASA Type Certification for the P2002-JF with a fixed tricycle landing gear. On 2 February 2007, followed by the P2002-JR with hydraulically
retractable tricycle landing gear. Both aircraft have a sliding canopy that can be opened in flight up to 70 knots. Kit built models are the P2002 EA
with a fixed tricycle landing gear and the P2002-RG with pneumatic retractable tricycle landing gear. The P2002 is mostly operated by private individuals
and militairy and civil flight schools. Today, hundreds of P2002 ultralights, Light Sport and VLA aircraft are sold throughout the world and validated
in over 15 countries other than Europe. The ICAO Aircraft Type Designator for the Tecnam P2002-JF is SIRA. |
