A widely used ultralight aircraft is the Ikarus Fox II / C-22. Comco developed the Fox II as the successor of the popular Ikarus Sherpa ultralight aeroplane. Production of the improved 2-seat Fox II by Comco Ikarus GmbH in Mengen, Germany, started in 1984. In 1987, the C22 Fox II replaced the Fox II in production. Over 1000 Fox II / C22 planes were built and the ultralight is exported to almost every European country, Asia, the Near East and South-America. The Ikarus C22 was offered for sale in three models: C22 C, C22 CS and Aero. The CS model has a three-blade propeller, covered engine and a stainless steel exhaust system. The Comco-Ikarus C 22 CS Aero is the top model in the C 22 series and has a glass-fibre fuselage closed cockpit-cubicle with doors on both sides, an instrument console, etc. The C 22 C Aero is powered by a 80 hp 4-cylinder-4-stroke liquid-cooled / air-cooled Rotax 912 UL version engine.

On 2 November 1990, the Comco-Ikarus C22 s/n 9009-3286 was registered PH-2D2 in the Netherlands with B.van Klinken, Valthermond. On 2 November 1995, the 1990-built Comco-Ikarus Fox C22 was registered with B.Kappen, Oude Pekela. On 5 August 1997, the PH-2D2 was registered with H.Zuidema, Zandeweer and R.van Wieringen, Finsterwolde. On 9 June 2010, registration PH-2D2 was cancelled as exported to Bulgaria. On 6 February 2005, the by a Rotax 582 UL DCDI engine powered Comco-Ikarus C22 Aero PH-2D2 was seen at the ULM-aerodrome Stadskanaal in Vledderveen, the Netherlands.
