The Mitsubishi Mu-2B-26 is a high-wing seven-seat twin-engine business and utility aircraft. Development of the Mitsubishi Mu-2 by the Shin Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan started in 1959. The first Mu-2A prototype was flown on 14 September 1963. The first Mu-2B was flown on 11 March 1965. The Mitsubishi Mu-2 was placed in full-scale production in 1965. The first production version was the MU-2A with two 562 hp Turbomeca Astazou IIK turbine-engines, followed by the MU-2B with two 575 hp Garret AiResearch TPE-331-25A turboprops. Over 800 Mitsubishi Mu-2's of all variants were built.

The 1975-built Mitsubishi Mu-2B-26 s/n 337 was registered first N522MA in the USA. On 6 February 1986, the aircraft was registered SE-IOV in Sweden. Mitsubishi Mu-2B-26 SE-IOV is operated by SAAB Nyge Aero, formely Nyge Aero AB, a Swedish airline that is owned by SAAB. The company operates their Learjet 35A's and Mu-2Bs on EW training and as Target Tow aircraft.
