At the beginning of the nineties, the members of the "Sportfliegerclub Meppen" started ul-flying in Herzlage but actually they were looking for a
location closer to their home. The wish was heard by Manfred Freiherr von Landsberg-Velen of Schloss Dankern and he made a part of his land available
for the flying activities. After the land was appointed to serve as UL airport, the necessary permits were obtained and the local aviation association
"Fliegerclub Haren / Dankern" was able to handle the activities at the airfield, Flugplatz Haren / Dankern was officially opened on 15 June 1991.
Since the beginning in 1991: a clubhouse with space for traffic control was built; the original grass runway was replaced by a paved runway and
several hangars were built. Flugplatz Haren / Dankern is the home of over 50 ultralight aircraft. In addition to the flying club 'Fliegerclub Haren / Dankern',
flyingschool 2Skys is located at the airfield.
