The Piper PA-18C Super Cub is a two-seat high-wing light utility aircraft.
The Piper PA-18 Super Cub flew for the first time in 1949, and the FAA Type certification was
awarded on 18 November 1949. The first production Super Cubs were delivered in 1949. Over
10.000 Super Cubs were built, including about 8,500 civilian Super Cubs and more than 1,800
delivered to the U.S. and several foreign military services as L-18Cs and L-21s for liaison;
training; transport and target tugs work. Most of the Super Cubs were built until 1981 when
production originally ceased. Super Cub production resumed by WTA between 1982 and 1988
totalled 250. Between 1988 and 1994 Piper Aircraft built another 102. The ICAO Aircraft Type Designator for the Piper PA-18C Super Cub is PA18.
The 1953-built Piper L-18C c/n 18-3219 (frame-nr. 18-3230) USAF serial 53-4819 entered service with the Belgian Army in 1954.
It was operated as L145 and OL L45 with the Belgian Air Force. The Super Cub was stationed
in Belgium at Wevelgem, Coxyde and Brasschaat and in Germany at Butzweilerhof near Cologne until it was retired
from military service in 1969. In July 1969, the aircraft was registered in Germany as D-EHCB. In 2002, the aircraft was wfu
and the registration D-EHCB was cancelled. The aircaft was transported to Hoogeveen and rebuilt as new. The aircraft was
not only rebuilt but it also recieved the original colours as it wear during its military career in Belgium. Piper
L-18C Super Cub D-EHCB is part of the DNW-fleet as the 'Belgian Air Force OL L14'. On 17 August 2005, Piper L-18C Super
Cub D-EHCB /'Belgische Luchtmacht OL L14' was seen at its homebase Hoogeveen (EHHO).
